#1 THE DELIVERY PROCESS OF OLFACTION
The olfactory system can detect and transmit odor signals to the brain in less than one second, making it one of the fastest senses to reach the brain. Odorant molecules in the air stimulate sensory cells in the nose called olfactory receptor neurons. These neurons send signals to the olfactory bulb, which is part of the brain's limbic system, responsible for emotion, memory and behavior. The limbic system processes these signals and can trigger an immediate emotional or physical response.

The molecules in essential oils are relatively small in size (thousands of times smaller than the diameter of a human hair.). Their size allows them to diffuse more readily through the microscopic openings between skin cells and cross the stratum corneum barrier.
Essential oils are primarily lipophilic (fat-soluble) compounds. The lipophilic nature allows them to penetrate the outermost layer of the skin, which allows certain compounds in essential oils to be absorbed into the bloodstream and circulated throughout the body.
